| The
concept of conveying bulk cement by ships was first pioneered
in India by BHP in collaboration with BMH Marine. It has been
accepted the world over that conveying of bulk cement by ships
over sea is definitely cheaper and more eco-friendly.
In 1993 BHP was involved with the first project of sea
borne transport of bulk cement using cement carriers equipped
with self-loading and unloading equipment supplied by BMH
Marine for 3 ships. Since then, BHP has been actively involved
in supplying equipment to the Marine loading / unloading terminals
of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd for
their marine terminal at Muldwarka in Gujarat and at Galle
(Sri Lanka). In 2001 BHP supplied air slides to two 4000 dwt
self discharging cement carriers built in India.
